News Flash!!! An article in the
September 2001 issue of Prevention Magazine
reported that skipping (the kind without a rope)
burns twice as many calories as walking. Here's
what their expert had to say, "Skipping is
cool. Football players do it. It really works
your legs, provides a good cardio workout, and
is fun for variety." They recommend that
walkers start adding some skipping to their
program.
While this website is dedicated to skipping
happily down the street (without a rope), there
are also a lot of people out there who feel just
as passionately about skipping with a rope! Both
ways offer fun and effective workouts. If you'd
like to know more about the world of rope
skipping, visit the website
of their international federation.

Just like yoga, skipping provides exercise
for the body, mind, and spirit. While this web
site talks about the benefits of all three, it
is dedicated to the joyful spirit that skipping
represents. Even more than promoting skipping
itself, we are encouraging the practice of
listening to what your spirit says and building
the inner strength necessary to set it free.
Skipping isn't for everyone. Getting out of our
comfort zones for a momentary skipping escape
takes guts. It is much more difficult than many
realize. Our ego likes to feel in control and is
afraid of what others will think. It says,
"Are you crazy? Everyone will think you've
lost it You're going to annoy people with your
joy."..and lots of other self-critical
stuff. At the same time, our childlike spirits
long to feel the liberation and freedom that
skipping provides. When we can learn to simply
observe our ego's fear and then choose to skip
on despite it, we develop the spiritual strength
necessary for inner peace.
There's another powerful benefit of skipping
which is that it adds joy and positive energy to
the world. Seeing adults consumed by the joy
of skipping sends a compelling message about the
power of the spirit over fear. When you learn to
turn off your logical mind and get lost in the
spirit of skipping, it's like exercising a
muscle that will help you deal with other fears.
As external events become increasingly intense,
that kind of inner strength will be more
important than ever.
Fun Skipping
Stuff....
Skipper Susan Reineck in Georgia
skipped over 100 miles across the Atlanta. She did the
skip to raise awareness for the Wildlife
Rehabilitation Sanctuary in Ellijay,
GA. Way to go Susan....SKIP ON!
Iskip was contacted in Spring 2001 by a skipper
named Peter in St. Petersburg,
Florida who had done a year-long study about
exercise and the bible a couple years
before. To his amazement, he
discovered that the Hebrew words for skip (Rawkad
and Qaphats) were throughout the Old
Testament and that King Solomon and King
David often skipped. The Greek word for skip
which is Skairo is also in the New Testament.
His findings prompted
Peter to start skipping for exercise
and eventually to write a book called "King
Solomon Skipped" about his findings
and resulting passion for skipping. You can write to him at peter@iskip.com
for more info or read more about the book on
amazon!
At a recent wedding in San
Francisco, the Reverend Michelle Squyer
offered the following prayer, "As you
skip along the road of life, may your
journey be filled with love, serenity, and
magic this day and always. Amen." Then
the happy newlyweds skipped down the aisle
at the end of the ceremony!! What a
wonderful way to start a life together.
Congratulations Mark and Nancy!!!!

movement? It's easy.....Just start skipping!

Peter
Pan
Skips!
Iskip.com's Kim Corbin

skipper and Peter Pan enthusiast Randy from Peter
Pan's Homepage. He won the webby for the weird category!

We recently learned that the Spanish verb
for "to skip" is brincar. So if you
want to tell someone to Skip on! in Spanish,
say Que sigue brincando! To skip in French is
either sauter which also means jump or sautiller
which also means hope. So, one could say sauter de joie for jump for joy or for skip for joy. In Korea,
"Gaesok poljak duda" is Hangul for "keep skipping".
In Dutch the word for skip is huppel and
in Germany it is hopsen. In Thai,
everybody skip is "Took-kon kra-dode-kaam!"
If you know how to
say "skip" in another language,
email kidagain99@aol.com
and let us know.
Skipping Enthusiasts
The skipping movement is a grassroots effort
that started in San Francisco. It is a
collective effort by a group of skipping
enthusiasts from around the world. There is no formula or
manual for us to follow . We're just skipping by
example and figuring it out as the adventure
unfolds. If you're a skipping self-starter who
has a desire to combat the negativity in the
world, the skipping enthusiast role might be for you. Email
us at kimskips@peoplepc.com
for more information. You can meet the current
skipping enthusiasts in the skipping
saints section of this site.
Skip Tips! Skip Tips! Skip Tips! (Try to
say that real fast three times!)
SKIP TIP: Remember that there are a
wide variety of impact levels of skipping.
It's easy to think that you have to leap far
into the air which consumes a lot of energy.
If you do a low impact skip at a slower pace
you will be able to go farther distances.
SKIP TIP: It's very important to
wear a high quality athletic shoe if you are
skipping for any distance. Since no one has
designed a skipping shoe YET, pick a shoe
with a lot of tread. The balls of your feet
will wear out much faster when you skip.
SKIP TIP: Try these fun skipping
techniques....from Mike in San
Francisco...The butterfly skip!!
As you skip elegantly wave your arms
up and down and pretend that you are
flying like a butterfly. It's fun!! or
from Dave in Boston...The chicken skip!
Most definitely one of the silliest it
is a cross between the chicken dance and
skipping...Just fold your arms and cluck
with each skip!
