skip for a cause

The unique and visual nature of skipping makes it a fun way to raise awareness and money for causes you believe in. iSkip.com would like to support your fundraising efforts in whatever way we can, so be sure to let us know when/if you are planning one.
Here are a few examples of ways people have used skipping to promote things they believe in:
South Florida Skip-A-Thon – April 2000
In April of 2000, a school in Miami held a skip-a-thon to raiseĀ money so their school can hire teacher’s aides. The man who had been spearheading the fundraising effort passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack. His name was Skip. So the school decided to do a skipping fundraiser in his honor to raise the additional money they need.
Here’s their post-skip wrap up…
After a tremendous amount of preparation, the results were better than expected. We had about 500 people come to Founder’s Park on an absolutely gorgeous day. A beautiful breeze came in off the Atlantic Ocean, temperature about 80 degrees and the sky a crystal blue dotted with just the right amount
of cloud cover to make it a picture perfect day in South Florida.
At about 9:30, we began our first skipping session. What we did was to run it more like a series of activities around the circular “track”. About every thirty seconds to a minute we would stop the music and the kids and plenty of
adults would freeze. We wanted to give them a chance to catch their breath. We would start the music again and say, “Now skip backwards.” Stop again and now skip sideways; now with a partner and on and on. We were concerned that
an on going skip may not be so heart friendly for those not in tip top shape. It made the thirty minute skip a real giggle. We found that as soon as everyone started to skip they had the biggest smile on their faces. My
children served as voluteers to “mist” the participants. They stood outside the track with spray bottles and as the kids skipped by, they would get a little mist of a shower and cooled off right away. Following the first skip,
we had some performances from the school and a special dance group came from another area. We had about 20 vendors selling everything from Mother’s Day gifts to cotton candy. We had a fabulous group doing games for the kids in the center of the track. Our DJ was a big success providing wonderful background music during the entire day. The event was a huge success overall.
